I can’t love, I can’t feel, I am Desolate.
5*
I'm
going to just start by issuing a warning...If you haven't read
Empathy yet, then that needs to be your first port of call because A)
it's bloody amazing and B) because you wont fully understand the back
story and you'll miss certain subtle details in the book that you do
NOT want to miss. This is mainly Ryan's story, 18 years after being
locked in a mental institute for the criminally insane Ryan is
thought to be ''cured'' and is, therefore, released. Everything is
different, except, of course, the dark twisted world that rules Ryan.
His brother, Blake, has married the beautiful Melody and they have a
teenage daughter called Cereus. Cereus has a tempestuous relationship
with her mother. She feels as desolate and unanchored as Ryan in a
lot of ways, and yet, the two are as similar as they are
different..they are almost Ying and Yang, light and dark merging into
the dusk...she seems to have a calming influence on the beast within
him. Their relationship was in no way sexually motivated, it was
something intricately different...kindred souls in a lot of ways I
suppose.
Dukey
has done what she does best here...she's created a character that no
one in their right mind can relate to, and yet....you love him
anyway! Ryan is a self confessed cold blooded killer, he's psychotic
and devoid of emotions, he has even tried to murder the only person
who has ever truly loved and taken care of him as a child! and
yet....there is an intricate sadness about him. Ryan is a lost little
boy that was just never programmed quite right. Surely I can be
forgiven for falling under his spell?
With
a plot that has more twists and turns than your average maze and
characters that pull your emotions in every way humanly possible, I
defy you not to finish this book and feel like you've been on an
emotional joyride in a 1969 Pontiac GTO! 5 stars and every last one
of them was deserved! Well done Ker! #RyanIsMine
I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters. I wanted to be an actress growing up so I could live many roles but I learned early on that my mind was too active... I would want to change the script.I would watch films and think of ways they could of improved the story if they took another direction so i thought it best that i tell my own.
My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light, some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling.
When I'm not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I'm a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister. You can find me on Facebook where i love interacting with my readers.
