I was happy until I met him. I was content until I met her.
That's a lie. I was lonely. That's a lie. I was incomplete.
He was nothing but a handsome distraction. She was nothing but a pretty pastime.
That's untrue. He changed my life. That's untrue. She altered my world.
I blame him. I blame her.
I blame myself. He wasn't to know. I blame myself. It wasn't her fault.
I don't want to need him. I hate that I want her.
There's no easy solution. There's no going back.

“Is Damien Brooks the guy you were at the club with, the night we …” “The night we fucked in the alley?” she answers brazenly. “You’re not very lady like.” “I never claimed to be a lady.” I lean forward in to the space between us, she pulls back a little until her shoulder hits the door trim. “Is Damien Brooks the guy you were at the club with the night we fucked in the alley?” I say in a low, soft voice. My eyes linger on her lips as her mouth drops open slightly, and the next breath she takes shudders through her chest. “Yes. What does that matter?” “Was he selling drugs there that night?” “I …I don’t know what he …I don’t even know what I’m talking to you for.” She unbuckles her belt and starts tugging on the door handle. “Let me out. I must be fucking insane. You’re a psycho, a fucking lunatic, let me out of this fucking car before I kick the fuck out of your window with my heels.” She demands. “Go ahead. Not my car.” I laugh, sitting back in amusement to watch the show. “Should have known that too. Did you steal it? Of course you stole it, you just take what you want don’t you? You wanted me that night, and you took me. You just took me again, against my will, from outside my home.” She utters, “So what will you take next? What is it that you want from Damien, from me? I don’t have any money, I don’t have any drugs−” I silence her hysterics by grabbing the back of her head roughly and crashing my lips against hers. There’s something about her that shoots a charge through my body, it’s against my better judgement but the frustration I have around my feelings toward her fuels the passion.

Megan was a young woman, completely isolated from most of her friends and her family all in the name of, what she thought, was love. She'd been in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend since she was a kid and had learnt to turn a blind eye to some of his less than stellar qualities and dealings. Whenever he was around they'd frequent a local club where she'd ''eye fuck'' the same stranger from across the room. Finn was a deeply hurt and confused guy, his mother was seriously ill and he wasn't coping well with it. He's had a habit of internalising all of his problems and emotions since he was a child. Luckily he has a group of amazing friends that watch his back and try and keep him on the straight and narrow. The two have an immediate and undeniable chemistry that reaches a peak in an alleyway...However, life has a way of throwing a harrowing spanner into the works and suddenly the duo are at each others throats. The chemistry that they initially felt for each other is still there but masked in a veil of hurt and muddied misdirected emotion. The supporting characters deserve a mention here, Kyle and Harley both had me utter stitches! (I claim Kyle Lily so hands off!) There's one particular scene with Kyle that even now, thinking back, i'm still laughing about! utterly inspired! I'm hoping that this is going to become atleast a 3 book series (please Nikki?!) I was in love with Megan's sass and spunky attitude from the beginning, she'd made some less than wise life choices but she was a genuinely relatable character that i defy any woman not to see shreds of themselves in her. She's the perfect balance of sass and vulnerability! For once, i'm in love with the female lead!! Having previously loved 'Holding Aces' and 'High Stakes' i had pretty high expectations for this book and Ms Groom has more than stepped up to the plate...Nikki has created a tale here that will have you spitting out your coffee (wine in my case) with gut-retching laughter one minute and have you reaching for tissues the next. The emotions switch and change as quickly as the plot line! This is a clever, hilarious and exceptionally well written book from an extremely talented young author! Thank you so much Nikki! 5 very well deserved Stars!!
